My Personal Experiences Of Marketing On Twitter

By Emmanual Robbins

Software tools to automate marketing on Twitter were being greatly promoted a few years ago. It was thought that Twitter was one of the most effective ways to grow a list and to get people to order the products you are advertising. Cutting through the hype, just what kind of results can you anticipate after using these Twitter marketing tools? In this article, we will discuss Twitter marketing and if it is even worth it for you to get involved with it.

Like many of you, when all the tools came out to help folks build a big Twitter following that you could promote to, I decided to try it out. I ended up buying and programs that would get me followers and programs that would actually promote my products for me. By the time I was finished, I'd spent money on something like eight programs to perform some of the grunt work involved in Twitter marketing.

The first Twitter marketing tool I purchased allowed me to automatically follow people in the hopes that they would then reciprocate and follow me. Those who were not following me on Twitter would be automatically removed from my follow list by another tool I had paid for. This way I could be following those who might follow me in return. Along with some other programs that are not really worth noting, I invested in a program that would automatically take my blog posts and automatically Tweet them as soon as they were published on my blog.

I must say that the combined effect of using all these programs together gave superb results as each program did as advertised. But as soon as it appeared that I wasn't making any money, my initial exuberance was soon dampened. I would post to my blog 10 times each day and those blog posts would be displayed directly on Twitter just like they are supposed to. Then I discovered a way to have all the blog entries done for me automatically, thinking that the more posts I would have the more folks who would see them.

Okay, let me share my results: After three years utilizing these Twitter marketing tools, I had built nearly 10,000 Twitter followers. I bet you think this is an awesome number, but I'm not done yet: Also in the past three years I have had over 15,000 of my blog posts that were promoting affiliate products posted to my Twitter account.

My blog posts displaying on Twitter was the only sort of advertising for that blog I did and to determine the effectiveness of Twitter I did not even ping new posts as they were published. Exactly how 'good' it was quickly became obvious: after 3 years just two affiliate sales generated $46.74 plus another $9.10 for Adsense. With just 2 - 4 visits each day originating from Twitter, maybe this is not surprising.

Despite me utilizing programs to make the job easier and getting approximately 10,000 followers on Twitter, I still could not turn a decent profit using Twitter marketing for my blog. The bottom line is that the money I've generated is not adequate to cover the cost of the Twitter tools I paid for to start with. Lastly, I cannot personally recommend using automatic software tools as an effective means of promoting products on Twitter.
